Reminds me of the old Christiansburg/Dresser days...He used to say that the
B-team would finish 2nd in the state!

So cold my cheap rain suit "shattered" from jumping up and down so much...
And itAnd It looked like I was wearing a clear plastic hula skirt!

Aaron didn't give up a point while dominating
Iowa's Ayala and Penn State's Blaze....that in itself is worth a mention!

Devin Carter being in the same weight as Logan Steiber is another example!
There is always someone you have to strive to beat.
When Dresser was here in Christiansburg, he used to say he took the kids to the big tournaments to get them beaten so they would work harder.

Coach Pollack is a fine man!
I first met him when my son was coming up in the youth leagues in Montgomery County, and Coach was working with the kids and working as the PE teacher/Middle School Coach at Christiansburg Middle. He had some really good kids, some not-so-gifted kids, some great wrestling kids, some challenging kids in that program, and some of both!. He worked with them all equally and gracefully.
My son and his buddies were some of the very best to come out of Christiansburg High School, and a lot of that was due to the solid fundamentals that Coach gave them. (He gave them some flare, too, but he gave them the base to grow on.)
I spent a lot of time with him on the wrestling trips, bingo, and practices. He's a good one! And so is Julia!

I'm trying this thing called work but it's not distracting me enough...
That happens when you have been in the same position for 35 years as of tomorrow! At Tech no less! Watched a lot of change up close and personally.

This week is moving like time in A Christmas Story...
I swear I saw the hands of the clock move backwards just now!

Did you hear why?!!! Weighed 150 lbs this morning is the rumor!
Dresser used to tell us stories about how they would cut lbs between road matches on a weekend! That was back in the dark ages compared to the weight management they do now.

Aylala has taken a lot of losses (7) this year. It will be interesting
to see if he uses the loss to Jax as fuel to correct the arc of his season.

Here are my guesses...
Eddie and Aaron will win.
Crook finishes 3rd with a little luck.
Gaj avenges his loss to take 1st
Miller will finish higher...he started a little slow, but has been wrestling well lately.
Church will move up and steal a spot
Sergio will move up also if he finishes a da*n shot! He is there; he just needs to finish it.
Bullock is solid and had a couple of early slips due to gas tank issues, but I haven't seen those signs lately.
Mullen needs to realize he is as big and strong as these other guys but faster than most, and put that speed to work. Trumble is the Kryponite in heavyweight.

I was sure, in person, that Siedel had backs on that last TD
until I saw the replay last night. There was a hesitation before the TD was awarded, where Jax still had the leg. Once he gave that up, the TD was given, and swipes began. So Aaron got a collection of single swipes, but boy, it was close!
I did not like the quick 2-stall call on Miller live or on replay. I had no problem with the 1st, but OSU pushed him out, and David Taylor was the one who said he backed out, and the official obliged. If it had been on our side of the mat, it may not have been called. Just my gut feeling.
And on another note,
It was wild for me to see David Taylor there as a head coach. I still remember him as the 7th or 8th-grade phenom that I would see while traveling to tournaments when my son wrestled. Then I got to see him in his 1st couple of years wrestling in the tourneys we would travel to. The guy was tough as nails!

The locked hands happened early in that Ride out period...
And i saw some of the fans telling him to throw it.
You notice the officials didn't rule on the locked hands...they ruled that it wasn't timely!
Rock missed it too, just a couple seconds into the period, Kennedy locked his hands while they were both on their knees.

I also agree. And..
Kasak's freestyle experience showed. Using the edges, playing the injury time to the max!

Jordan was a summer staple of
The old Hawkeye East/ Va Elite Club back in the Dresser and Weber days.
Those were some heady days for the club...
A lot of big names would pass through the club for some workouts and training. Both young and older.

This takes me back....
I was involved with the club a lot back then.
I loved watching Dessler hang a leg out and let guys like Matt Epperly or BJ Compton take a shot, and then the leg was gone!
Dressler was a beast for a long time! Once saw him wrestle in a Master's level event and pin a guy with just his legs!

That was a TD when Steiber took down Oliver
not too long ago! I don't think we won a single brick all week. I think the most egregious was Eddie's TD. When both ankles are covered that long it is a TD regardless of the whizzer.

Both Seidel and Burton took out the only
Penn State recruits to make the finals!
I would say if this were the NCAAs with
2 Champions
1 Runner-up
1 3rd
1 5th
All-Americans, of course.
We could very well have been standing on top of the podium!
Penn State had 3 All-American Penn State recruits to make the finals!
I'm not sure of other schools but I can't imagine anyone having a better result than our recruits did this year!
Great job guys!
Keep it Rolling!

Seidel to Finals!
Beat Desmond, is Beat Desmond, also a multi-time Pa state champ at different divisions. Desmond is headed to PSU.
Seidel is the heavy favorite going into the final vs Christensen from Iowa.

That was my thoughts exactly too.
The funky, scramble, duck-under position that Lovett found himself in for his takedown was a result of Caleb's shot and not any offense created by Lovett. Lovett is a hammer on top for sure, but I think Caleb is much better on his feet.

Most of the cauliflower ears that you see are from freestyle
Where headgear is not required and can be a detriment because the rules don't prohibit using those grip points.
In high school now, headgear is required during practice but club practices...not so much. With so many hard head slaps, hard landings on the mats, knocks against knees and elbows and the like add up.
The ears hurt when swollen. They can be drained and can be packed to reduce swelling up never go back to normal.
My son had the help of the Tech wrestling medical staff to drain his ears and pack them and though it doesn't look as bad as the ones we see on TV, he's are still misshapen.
Years and years later I can always spot a wrestler just by his ears.

Great Breakdown!
This is very much how I see our tourney going progressing like this. I haven't really looked at the NCSU side so thanks for that analysis.
